A LONG-STANDING PART OF the Local community
Atlantic Forge has been part of village life as a shop/showroom in Mullion for over 60 years. Originally a forge with a showroom so customers could view the wrought iron offerings. The workshop produced lanterns and lamps for the nearby Atlantic Garage, which once stood where the village fire station is today.
In 1979, Peter and Sandra took on the premises and the wrought iron forge. Peter, an engineer, moved his young family from Manchester to Mullion to begin a completely new way of life, despite having no previous experience of running a forge. It was a bold move, but one that helped shape the business into what it is today. Peter remains a familiar face in the village, having served as a retained firefighter, Parish Councillor and Chair of the Village Hall.
FROM FORGE TO COASTAL SHOP
Over time, the business evolved. Postcards, buckets and spades were introduced, and the forge gradually became a seasonal shop serving visitors to the coast.
A key turning point came in 1988, when Peter introduced surf goods and wetsuits. In the first year, just six wetsuits were stocked on a sale-or-return basis, and only one sold. But as word spread, demand grew, and surf equipment quickly became a core part of the shop. Today, Atlantic Forge remains the only shop on the Lizard Peninsula offering quality wetsuits and boards.

Fun fact - this duo share the same birthday in April.
Modernising and expanding
The shop front was modernised in 2000, and in 2007 a self-contained apartment was added above the shop, now known as Atlantic Loft, giving visitors the opportunity to stay right in the heart of the village.
From 2007 to 2021, the shop was run by Annette and John, who continued to grow the business and firmly establish it within the community. Both still live locally and remain part of village life.
In 2021, Jeff took over the reins following Annette’s retirement, continuing the shop’s journey into its next chapter.
Previous owners Peter (1979 – 2005) and Annette and John (2005 – 2021) still live in the village today and remain regular visitors to The Atlantic Forge, keeping their connection to the shop very much alive.
